Pitch Perfect

The movie tells the story of  Becca and what happens when she joins The Bella, and acapella-singing group at her university.

This movie has had a huge impact on people. Many of their phrases had catch on, you can hear them quite often now. Some of them are:

  • Awesomely horrible
  • Tots (totally)
  • Doucheb's
  • Aca-excuse me
  • Calm your tits
  • Stepmonster
  • Lesbihonest
Ok yes, many of them are not very appropriate but they are still funny!
The cup song performed by Becca went viral on You-tube. There were thousands of people recreating this scene and performing the song.

This movie is very original. If you pay close attention to the beginning of the film, the Universal Studies song is sang by the actors of the movie. Also The Bellas are not like other singing groups from other musical-comedies, these girls are clumsy, and not all of them are pretty. I also loved how the director broke any kind of stereotype by including black girls, overweight girls and a lesbian.

Some of the lines on this movie were also very original, and this makes the movie even more funny.
  • Fat Amy: I'm gonna kill him! I'm gonna finish him like a cheesecake!
  • Bumper: I have a feeling we should kiss. Is that a good feeling or an incorrect feeling?                     Fat Amy: Well... sometimes I have the feeling I can do crystal meth, but then I think, mmm... better not.
  •  Fat Amy: You guys are gonna get pitch-slapped so hard, your man boobs are gonna concave.
  • Aubrey: The Trebles don't respect us, and if we let them penetrate us, we are giving them our power.  Fat Amy: Not a good enough reason to use the word 'penetrate.
The director also used actors that people recognize from another movies, like ""Mc Loving", and Jesse (from 21 and over), just to mention a couple.

I personally loved this movie,it has everything it takes to become a classic of the comedy. I would watch it again, because I know the jokes would still be as funny as the first time I heard them.

Minority Report

Sometimes, in order to see the light, you have to risk the dark.

Minority Report is a Sci-Fi movie, from 2002. It was directed by Steven Spielberg.
This movie is about a society where there is a system that can predict crimes before they happen. The plot of the movie starts when one of the agents of the pre-crime unit finds himself accused of committing a murder.

On this blog I will break down how the director used the different camera angles and sounds to construct the film. I am also going to show a clip of the movie and explain how the director used the angle shots and the sound to give life to the scene.

In this scene the director used eye level  shot when the robots were looking for John (Tom Cruise). This makes you part of that moment, it gives you the chance to look at everything from the same angle as the robots are. At the same time these little guys are running around there is an intense music playing on the background, it makes everything more exciting, and it gets you involved in what is happening.

Later on high angle shot is used to show how John is getting into the tub, and at the same time the music is still playing, creating suspense. High shots make the subject look weaker, and it's true, because at this point John is trying to hide from the agents that are trying to find him.

They also used P.O.V shot or over the shoulder, this shows a different prospective, and makes the scene more interesting.

Extreme close up was used to focus the attention on the bubble of air that popped. This was a very intense scene, because that little bubble was the one that caused John to get caught by the robots.

Close up shot was also used when the robots scanned Johns eye, they didn't use the extreme close up because they wanted you to see the eye but also the face emotion of the actor when all this was happening.

Another technique they use on this scene (and along the movie too) is the quick scene changes, they show a little bit of one and then change to the other. They do this to create suspense, and make people curious about what is happening on the movie. For example this scene shows how the robots are attacking John, and all of a sudden they show the cops running on the halls trying to find John, but while this scene is playing you are still wondering what is happening with John and the robots. They do this to once again create suspense and get people "hooked" on the movie.

Technology
"Sci-fi movies always try to push the envelope in terms of technology"
On this movie they show a big variety of new technology, some we have today and others we don't.

Examples!
These cars! We don't have them right now, I wonder if someday we'll though.
If you look at this picture most likely you'll say we don't have this kind of technology, but if you think about it we do. Touch-screens are very popular now days, we use them quite often, on our phones, Ipads, tablets, and some computers have them as well.

Often Sci-Fi movies will show technology that will be recreated later on, and once it's recreated people will be even more excited about it because they already saw it before on some awesome movie like Minority Report.

I liked this movie quite a lot, you have to pay really close attention to what is going on, otherwise it'll get a little bit confusing as you watch. Every single little detail matters on this movie.

Pepsi

         Live for now!
Carbonated soft drink, created by Caleb Bradham. Pepsi gained popularity around 1936, when it came up with a 12-ounce bottle.

The Pepsi logo has three main colours, blue, white and red. There are water drops on the circle and the background looks like ice breaking, this sends the message that Pepsi is a refreshing drink. Pepsi is also a catchy and easy to remember name. The font is big and simple, this tells that Pepsi is a fun drink, something simple that you can enjoy. The shape of the logo makes it easier to put it on bottles, cans, boxes and billboards.

The target audience is teenagers and adults, because usually  they are the ones that drink pop and they have money to buy it. The chances that children will drink Pepsi are very small.

Pepsi has many advertisements campaigns. For their commercials they use many famous and beautiful people, like Beyonce, Sofia Vergara, Brittany Spears, Pink, David Beckham, One Direction among many others. They do this because the fans of this artists will listen to anything their "idols" say, and if they say "Pepsi is the best" fans will believe their words.

This brand manipulates the perception of happiness and success. To get the peoples attention music and humor are used in the commercials and advertisements. It's shown that music can change people's mood. If they use happy music on their commercials, every time people think of Pepsi they'll also think of happiness, simply because of the effect music has on them. Same happens with humor, if it makes you laugh there are more chances that you will buy the product.

Pepsi has pop ads on Facebook, Youtube,
Apps and many other websites and social media sites. It also has billboards all over different cities. Many of the commercials and ads are in different languages so everybody will get the same message, this also makes it possible that more people find out about the brand. Pepsi also uses magazines and TV to advertise their products.

Guerrilla advertisement is another way Pepsi has to get peoples attention. A very famous one is the car prank. The video is the one on the left.

Finally!!!
In my opinion Pepsi campaigns do work and are very effective. Their commercials and advertisements are funny and very creative, therefore they will most likely get my attention. They are always coming up with something different and fun!

Casino Royale, Conventions

Casino Royale

Poster
For the poster of the this movie they used dark colours, black, and the dark green of the poker table. Also they didn't use bright lights, only the ones that you can see at the background of the picture, which were used to light up one side of Jame Bond's face, this effect creates mystery and suspense. The poster also shows Bond grabbing a gun, this gives out that the movie might have action scenes. The tittle also gives out hints about the genre, the 007 that blends into the tittle reminds you of FBI, and the codes they use to identify their agents.

Movie Trailer

After watching the trailer you can tell is an action movie right away. At the beginning of the trailer you can see the protagonist of the movie (James Bond) having a conversation with a guy and while they talk you can see action scenes, gun shooting, also there is a lady explaining Bond's mission. Also the quick shots makes everything more exciting. There is a scene where the protagonist is kissing a woman, this shows that there is romance involved in the movie, and later on the same girl is trapped on a cage and you can tell Bond is going to rescue her. The trailer generates a lot of suspense, and pulls you into the movie, it makes you want to watch it.

Movie

The movie was very good, it defenitetly met my expectations after watching the trailer. It had a lot of car chasing and gun shooting, also fights. Casino Royale was the perfect name for this movie, since it had a lot of gambling, and not only on the poker table. There was a lot of suspense and scenes that made you want to keep watching. The movie was quite long, when you thought it was the end something else would happen.

Action Movie Conventions:
Weapons-Knives and Guns, Killing- death of loved ones, Explosions and crashes, Fights.

Modern Family

Modern Family is an American comedy series. It came out September 23rd 2009.

It tells the story of three families, whom are all related at the same time. This comedy series is called "Modern Family" because these families don`t follow the old stereotypes of what "a family is supposed to look like". For example we have the gay couple, Mitchell and Cameron, they adopted a Vietnamese baby, Lily, and take care of her like if she was their own. Jay and Gloria are married, but she is almost twenty years younger than him and has a kid, Manny, from her old marriage. Clair is Jay`s daughter (Mitchell is also Jay`s son) and she is married to Phil, and together they have three kids.

Some of the Characters!

Jay is on his sixties, old millionaire, father of two. He is married to a beautiful Colombian woman, (who is much younger than him) and becomes step dad of her son. Jay is very homophobic, but this has to change when he finds out his son is homosexual, the love he feels for his son will make him change his attitude towards gay people. He spends most of his time at the golf club, where he meets with his friends. Jay tries to get Many (his step son) to kinda give up on his Colombian roots, but at the end is Jay the one who's getting used to have that Latin atmosphere around him.

Gloria is a beautiful Colombian woman, she is a very loving wife and mother. Her accent leads her to mispronounce English words, earrings as "hair-rings", among many others. Gloria is always trying to get along with Clair (Jay's daughter), because she has a feeling that Clair doesn't like her very much. Gloria can be very impulsive, and is full of energy, always protecting the people he loves, she is also very loud, and always shouting. She has a high tolerance for spicy food, is an amazing gun shooter, and also is the most religious person in the whole family. She loves her son to death and will do anything to make him happy.

Phil is married to Clair, he sees himself as the "cool" dad who texts lol- laugh out loud, omg-oh my god, and wtf- why the face. He is always trying to bond with his three kids. Phil has a crush on Gloria but  he doesn't always show it . He is also scared of clowns, and is competitive when it comes to playing basketball with his son Luke. Phil will do beyond the impossible to get Jay's approval, in one occasion he fixed his printer, and kept bringing it up for he rest of the season.

Funny  Quotes!

Manny: What kind of man writes poetry on the computer?
Jay: You could have ended that sentence after poetry

Gloria: You had a 3 hour nap on Sunday.
Jay: I was tired.
Gloria: From what, your 2 hour nap on Saturday?

Claire: You have dumb ideas.
Phil: Name one...that went on for awhile

Gloria: If she learns how to froth his cappuccino I am history!

This show is presented as a "mockumentary", they talk directly into the camera, and talk about their every day's lives. The episodes take place at the houses of each family. This show is targeted to the different people in our society. For example, Gloria is Colombian and USA is known for the many Latin American cultures mixed in the American population, therefore Gloria represents all the Latin people. Mitchell and Cam represent the gay community, and how they have come a long way in our society.
At the end of each episode they leave a message to the audience, kinda like a path to follow that will help them to be a better family.

I really enjoy this show, it shows many sides of our society, and situations that we might go through at some point in our lives. I started watching it around three weeks ago and I'm already on season four!

The Shawshank Redemption

"Get busy living, or get busy dying"

The Shawshank Redemption is a 1994 American drama film.
This is a very inspiring film , it shows that if you really want something you can get it, and that hope can be the light when everything else is dark.

Andy Dufresne, was convicted for killing his wife and her lover. Andy was innocent, he did not commit this crime, but at the same time he had no way to prove his innocence, therefore he settled to his two life sentences. He was hopeful, he always thought that things would get better, it would take time but eventually they would. He started working at the library, this was a way to spend his time and also be helpful.
Before he went to prison he worked at a bank so he was very good with numbers, this gave him the chance to work for the warden. This also made Andy's chances to get out of prison smaller, because he knew where all the warden's money was coming from, and I he ever said this to anybody it would get the warden fired.
Andy spent 19 years in prison. Every year he spent there was used to work on his escape, he dug a hole on his cell that took him all the way out of the building. He stole the money from the warden and used it once he got out of jail.
Andy never gave up, he knew he was innocent, and god wouldn't sentence him for something he didn't do. He was always hopeful, and had a goal, to get out of that place and restart his life. He planned his escape carefully and when the time was right, he left, just like he always wanted. He started his own business in Mexico and moved close to the Pacific Ocean, a place that has no memory.

Red was Andy best friend, but he wasn't always like this, when Andy first got to the building Red judged him wrong, he thought Andy would cry and wouldn't make it the first night he was there, what he never thought was that Andy was about to change his life and the way he looked at things. Red was a hopeless man, he thought that there was nothing for him outside of those walls, that it was better just to get used to it and live with it. Andy changed this, he restored Red's hope  he told Red about his plans outside of prison, and that he was welcome to be part of those plans. When Andy left Shawshank, this showed Red that there was a chance, and that things could get better. His hope was restored and he started a new life along with his best friend.

Warden is a religious man, he believes in god, and money. His program of prison cheap labour gets him a lot of money, and he'll do anything it takes to keep it. Andy is in charge of "cleaning" and banking this money, because Andy knows about all this the warden will eliminate any possibility of Andy getting out of prison. All Samuel knew was his dirty business with the cheap labour  that has his life and what he worked for. Also he believed strongly on the bible and he also quotes many of the bible passages which come back and haunt them due to his hypocritical nature. Norton kills himself once the police finds out about his dirty work and his fraud. He was a hopeless man, he never changed or even saw change as an option, he was mean and selfish and abused his power.

I really enjoyed this movie. It shows that things can get better, and that hope, can be that extra push you need to follow your dreams and achieve your goals.

Photography

This pictures were taken in Cuba.
This was my last New Year's Eve in Cuba before I moved to Canada.
For some reason I really liked how the sun looked that day, there weren't too many clouds on the sky, therefore you could see the sun all round and bright.
Something that got my attention the most was the couple kissing as the sun went down, it made the whole thing more romantic.
I used photoshop to edit this picture. I cropped it to get rid or the noise and only focus on the sun(and the couple in one of the pictures),
I used touch up to get rid of imperfections on the picture.
These pictures always brings me good memories. Cuba's beaches, the sun. They give me a warm feeling, they bring me back to that night and give me the opportunity to enjoy them one more time.
